I remembered!

Day 8: A place you've traveled to

I have actually done a lot of traveling in my lifetime. I've been to the Grand Canyon, Appalachian Trail, New York City, Washington DC, Paris, Geneva.... The list goes on and on. lol I would have to say that my favorite trip that I have been on would be my trip up the east coast a few years ago. It was the summer between my Freshman and Sophomore year of college and I wanted to go out and do something. So I planned, paid for and booked my own trip and I went by myself. Granted, I was staying with family the whole time. But I organized it myself (for the most part) and just left. I only really planned it about a month in advance. I wanted to go so I just left. I flew up to North Carolina and stayed with my Grandparents for a few days. It was the last time I was able to see my grandmother before she passed and I was really happy that I got to see her one last time. Even if it was only for a few days. After that I flew into Baltimore and took the train to DC. I met up with my cousin Melissa and she took me out on the town. I have another cousin, Lauren, who lived there at the time and I spent some time with her as well. We went to "Movie on the Mall" which is an event when a HUGE projector screen is put on the Mall in front of the capital building and people watch old movies and lay out picnicing on blankets and just having a good time relaxing.

I had a few hours a day to kill though while they were at work so I took the Metro and visited museums and the Library of Congress. I got to do and see what I wanted, which is something that a person doesn't always get to do when they are traveling with a bunch of people.

After a few days in DC my cousin Melissa and I decided to take the Bolt Bus to New York city and spend the night. (She had a free Night at the Hilton) We fit what would be a week long trip into a day and a half. We went to times square, saw a Broadway show (RENT), took a carriage ride through central park, a ferry ride under the Brooklyn Bridge and saw the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, we went to Battery Park and saw street performers. The list goes on...

After that, we went back to DC and I caught a flight home and slept for about 2 days.

This trip wasn't to just one place but it was my first trip that I planned and paid for all by myself. I kinda grew up a little bit after that. Not to mention that I got to see family that I don't get to see that often and I was able to see some really awesome sights.

Playing catch up again...

Day 6: A picture of something that makes you happy

This photo was taken for my going away dinner before I left for Florida State last year. Not everyone could make it but it was a great night with some great friends. I miss them like crazy but every time I am in town we always get together and it feels like we all just hung out last weekend. I have some amazing friends and they mean the world to me.

Day 7: Favorite movies

I am a HUGE movie buff so it is going to be difficult to come up with a list of my favorite movies. I am going to try to narrow it down to 5 though.

1.) "Newsies"

Newsies is probably my all time favorite movie. It is incredibly cheesy but I love every minute of it. The songs are amazing and it really defined my childhood movie experiences. I used to drive my friends crazy because I would random bust out singing "King of New York". Ohhh the memories.. lol

2.) "Brick"
"Brick" is a recent discovery of mine which I am grateful for. It is an indie noir film that completely captivated me and easily squeezed itself into my top favorite movies. Joseph Gordon Levitt helped a bit as well (He was the reason I looked the film up in the first place) But the whole cast was amazing. Check it out if you haven't. I really recommend it.

3.) "Chasing Amy"
Let me say that I am a huge Kevin Smith fan. I love the guy and most of his work. (I even enjoyed Jersey Girl) But chasing Amy is probably my favorite out of his filmography. It was a close between This and Mallrats but Chasing Amy had real heart to it. It really was a touching love story and just the right amount of comedy. Love it.

4.) "Inception"
This movie only came out last year but it was so amazing I just couldn't leave it out. Truly amazing piece of work by Mr. Nolan and the cast is mesmerizing. It had a great story that really made the viewer think (Which I love in a film) and it had enough action to keep almost anyone interested in what was going on. In a time where movies are defined by big budgets and 3D, it's nice to find a film that is both intelligent and fun.

5.) "Reservoir Dogs"

I just love this movie. I love the way it was shot. I love the cast. I love the dark humor. And let's be honest, anyone who has seen this film can't listen to "Stuck in the Middle with You" without thinking about someone's ear getting bitten off. Tarantino is a great dialog writer who keeps the movie going and the audiences attention. Great film.

Honorable Mentions
"Indiana Jones TRILOGY" (I don't like to count the last one. Didn't live up to what I had hoped)

"The Breakfast Club"
"The Boondock Saints"

"Cool Hand Luke"
"Fight Club"

Well those are my favorite movies. It was really hard and I can't believe that Indian Jones didn't make top five but I've been watching some new stuff lately that just seem to more interesting to me at the moment. Hope all is well!

Hey look I remembered!

Day 5: A song to match your mood

All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places, worn out faces
Bright and early for the daily races
Going nowhere, going nowhere

Their tears are filling up their glasses
No expression, no expression
Hide my head I wanna drown my sorrow
No tomorrow, no tomorrow

And I find it kind of funny, I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you, I find it hard to take
When people run in circles its a very, very
Mad world, mad world

Children waiting for the day they feel good
Happy birthday, happy birthday
And I feel the way that every child should
Sit and listen, sit and listen

Went to school and I was very nervous
No one knew me, no one knew me
Hello teacher tell me, what's my lesson?
Look right through me, look right through me

And I find it kind of funny, I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you, I find it hard to take
When people run in circles its a very, very
Mad world, mad world, enlarging your world
Mad world

This song has been on repeat on my iPod for about a week. Just something about how melancholy it is. It just puts everything into perspective fore me.

Blogging is harder than I thought...

So I missed a few days but that is because I have been crazy busy with exams and writing papers.. But enough with excuses.. Gonna get caught up in this post..

Day 2: Meaning behind your blog name
Let me break it down.. Melody
Well I have always been really into music. Through out my education I have been in music classes and and listen to music constantly. While I am doing homework, cleaning, I'll even have the radio on while I am watching TV... Weird I know. So Melody came out of that. Also I just love the name. lol If I ever have a girl her name is going to be Melody, despite what my future husband wants... No say in the matter with this one.
Anne
Anne is my middle name and I am the 3rd generation female on my mom's side of the family with that middle name.. So it means a lot to me. It also goes back to my future daughter's name because Melody Anne sounds pretty together. Not only does it keep tradition alive but also sounds nice.
88
This one is simple. It's the year I was born. lol When I make user names I usually end it with either 88 or 92. 88 is simple enough to understand but 92 was the year my favorite movie was released. (It's Newsies in case you were wondering)

Day 3: Your first love

I don't think I have ever been "in love" so to speak. But my first serious crush was in the 1st grade on a boy named Derek. He was one of my best friends and I absolutely adored him. Not that he would ever know but I practically worshiped the ground he walked on. He turned into a dick later on but I look back on my grade school days fondly. lol

Day 4: Your parents

My parents got divorced when I was about 5 years old. There is a lot of baggage when it comes to my parents so I'm gonna talk about them individually. Which makes sense because I grew up with them being apart. lol
Mom
My mom is the most wonderful human being I have ever met. She is probably one of my very best friends. I tell her everything and I genuinely enjoy hanging out with her. She was the one to take me out for my first legal drink when I turned 21 for goodness sake. lol Granted there were times that she pulled the mom card on me and I got in trouble and what not while I was growing up but I always understood her reasoning even though I didn't like it. lol She worked so hard as a single parent working 3 jobs just so my brother and I could have a somewhat normal life and be able to do things. I would be so lost without her.
Dad
My Dad is another story all together. Not once have I ever doubted his love for my brother and I but when you are an alcoholic you aren't that dependable. I would only see him about twice a month and when I got into high school it was sometimes less than that. Even though he couldn't put down the bottle, ever memory I have of him was a good one. He never had a lot of money and when we were at his house and we wanted to go out to dinner or something he would pay for my brother and I to eat but he would do without dinner. Just do he could take us out to do something. He is a great man just really sick. The only bad memories I have of him are when he WASN'T there. Like he wouldn't show up for band concerts or Christmas morning and what not. Those are the only bad memories I have of him. Things are changing now though. He has been sober for a year and a half now and I talk to him on the phone a few times a week. even though I am 22 years old now I am finally able to have a relationship with him even though it is long distance. Which I am grateful for every day.

Well That's it for today. I'm all caught up. Lets see if I remember to do this tomorrow!

This is what I am doing instead of studying for my exam tomorrow...

I am super tired and can no longer stand the thought of studying, yet I cannot go to bed until my blanket and sheets are out of the dryer so I must stay up for the next hour or so. Well my life sucks don'it? lol

I kinda want to get into this blog thing because I think it will be good for me to get my thoughts down somewhere so they aren't constantly floating around in my head. Even though I know that no one will read this I am still going to give it a go. If anything it could be like my own private journal that anyone can read.... so not so private but the idea is sound I guess.

Ok so to get myself started on this whole blogging thing and to try and make a habit out of it, I am going to do one of those 30 day challenges. So here goes nothing!

Day One!

My name is Becky, I am 22 years old and a student at Florida State University. I'm a duel major in History and religion and no before you ask I have no idea what I am going to do with it yet. But time will tell I guess. On the the random facts I guess...

1.)My mom is one of my best friends and I miss her a lot sometimes.
2.)I really hate steak, not because I'm a vegetarian because I love me some cheeseburgers, but because I honestly just don't like the taste. lol
3.) I love to read for fun. I tend to go towards fantasy books mainly because I like a story that takes me a away from everyday life. Give me an elf archer or a wizard and I am good to go.
4.) If I applied myself more I would get better grades. I know that isn't really random because I'm pretty sure that it is the same for everyone but I am doing this instead of studying for a test tomorrow so I thought it was fitting.
5.) I probably have the most eclectic taste in music ever. I pretty much love everything. Except I don't really enjoy that much rap. Some stuff I don't but none of the commercial stuff. I couldn't care less about how much money you have or how many hoes you can get. lol
6.) I am probably the most messy person I have ever met. I can't keep my room clean for the life of me. God forbid I ever have to share a room next year.
7.) I secretly wish that my life was a movie and I was just a character. That way if I screw something up, it isn't me screwing up. It's all just part of the story.
8.) I have weirdly shaped feet. Like I walk on the side of my pinky toe. I have been told that it is really weird but I think it just gives the character.
9.) My favorite movie changes from month to month but my all time movie forever and ever is and always will be newsies. Just something about that flick makes me happy. Always pulls me out a of funk.
10.) Speaking of favorite movie, my favorite band or singer is the same way but I will always be Breaking Benjamin's number one fan. Been to see them in concert like 4 times. I never get tired of their music and I have never out right disliked one of their songs. Love them.
11.) My dog back home seriously gets on my nerves but when I moved up to Tallahassee it took me like 2 weeks to be able to fall asleep without her by my feet.
12.) I wish I took more pride in my appearance. I mean I do but when I roll out of bed at 8:50am for my 9:05am class everyday, not really worried whether or not my makeup from the night before has been properly washed off.
13.) I tend to get a bit obsessive when it comes to an actor that I like. Sometimes I think it might be a tad unhealthy but I just can't help myself sometimes. Not stalker level but they do tend to invade my dreams. mmmm Christian Kane, how I love you.
14.) I am a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl. Not saying that I don't like to dress up because I do. It's just that I feel more comfortable in my skin when I am comfortable in my clothes. lol
15.) And my last random fact is that I am tired so I must bid you farewell until tomorrow. <3

Beginning of a journey

Every time I start to write on here I always find myself trying to sound deep and thoughtful. It's really frustrating because in all honesty I don't find myself to be such a deep person in everyday life. But when I sit down to write something I feel like I have to say something extraordinary.

Why is that you think?

Writing is something that I am very good at. In school I can knock out an essay in an hour and get a good grade. But when I am sitting down putting my thoughts on paper (or the interwebs as the case may be) I always draw a blank.

I have many thoughts and ideas that I want, no NEED to get out of my head sometimes but I just can't get them out. Is there some kind of manual for blogging because I could really use some sort of hand book.

The reason why I even made a blog was because many of my friends told me that I had something to say and that I should put it out there.

Well I would really like to know what that is because I am grasping as straws here.

grasping at straws? Who even made up that saying.. weird.

I guess what I am going to do here is just write down what comes to my head. Free writing. My freshman year of college my lit Professor had us write in a journal and we always had to fill up the page. Even if we had nothing left to say on the topic we had to just "keep writing". Even if it meant literally writing down that we had nothing left to say.

Kind of an interesting exercise which actually helped me write many papers. It kind of got the creative juices flowing and as I kept writing I thought of either something I forgot to mention or another angle on the topic I wanted to explore.

I leave for Florida State in 3 weeks. Equal parts exciting and terrifying.

Oh man. cool idea popped up...

I am gonna document my journey at college. At least the first semester away. It will give me something to do while I meet people and I think it will be cool to look back on the people I meet and the things I do as I try to find my way through my life away at college. An experience I haven't yet had even with a college degree already under my belt.

It should be interesting..

Until next time.

Motion Picture Nostalgia

Movies. Movies. Movies.

An American past time.

The only thing that allows people to escape their boring, mundane lives even if only for a moment. A person can sit and be in a completely different place, be a completely different person. They forget about bills, and mortgages, and all the curve balls that life throws at them.

They get to escape.

Maybe I hold movies in too high regard. Afterall, they are only meant to entertain right? But when you see a great film, like a really awesome, completely enthralling motion picture; its life changing.

I'm talking about the movies that stuck with you while you were growing up. movies like Star Wars, The Godfather, Casablanca, Indiana Jones, ET, The Breakfast Club, Titanic..
These movies and so many more like them, shaped the way the later 20th century entertainment industry entertained the masses.
I mean who hasn't seen Star Wars?

I go out with my friends at least once a week and catch a movie. And it is my favorite thing to do. I love the excitment before the lights dim. I love the "Did you see that!" and the "Oh my God!" comments. I love the smell of popcorn. I love talking about the film with my friends afterwards. Whether we are completely baffled by how awesome it was or we are completely ripping it to shreds.

It evokes an emotion in us that makes us want to relive our favorite parts or figure out a scene we didn't quite understand.

Most people my age like to party. They like to drink, dance, and have a good time... More power to them

Sit me in front of a TV with Indiana Jones fighting a gang of Nazis over the Holy Grail playing on the screen, I'm the happiest girl alive.
